Workplace Electric Vehicle Charging Stations Installed at Melink Corporation Headquarters, A Net-Zero Energy Facility

Waukegan, Illinois (January 22, 2015) Konnectronix® Inc., a leading developer of cord reel technology and manufacturer of PowerPost® commercial electric vehicle charging stations (EVSEs), has announced the installation of 10 L1 PowerPost™ Electric Vehicle Charging Stations at Melink Corporation’s LEED Platinum and Net-Zero Energy headquarters located in Milford, Ohio, a suburb of Cincinnati.

Recognized as an efficient solution for workplace electric vehicle charging, the recently installed PowerPost charging stations add yet another dimension to the leadership in energy conservation and energy efficiency that the Melink Corporation continues to demonstrate. Originally designed as a LEED Gold building, the Melink Headquarters achieved LEED Platinum certification in 2010 as well as an EnergyStar rating of 99. In 2011, it became one of the first existing buildings to go Net-Zero Energy.

A provider of energy efficiency and renewable energy solutions to the commercial and industrial building industries, Melink Corporation won a national Green Fleet award in 2011 in recognition of their commitment to reduced vehicle emissions and reliance on petroleum fuels. Steve Melink commented, “The installation of Konnectronix PowerPost charging stations fits well with our sustainability leadership brand. Our employees are increasingly interested in EV’s and this will allow more of them to justify one knowing they will receive free charging during the day. Also, this project adds much needed workplace charging in Ohio. We see workplace charging as a key factor in the adoption of electric vehicles.”

Konnectronix and Melink are both members of the Workplace Charging Challenge, an initiative to expand the EV Everywhere program that is part of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) “Clean Energy Grand Challenges.” The challenge encourages companies to increase the amount of workplace charging for electric vehicle drivers in an effort to reduce greenhouse gas emission and petroleum use, while demonstrating innovation, leadership and environmental stewardship.

“We are proud to work with companies like Melink that are leading the way with Level 1 workplace charging. Recently, the Department of Energy's "Workplace Charging Challenge" survey of employers that offer workplace charging revealed that employees that are offered charging at work are 20 times more likely to drive a Plugin Electric Vehicle,” said Bill Williams of Konnectronix. Bill Williams further commented, “The survey also showed that 80% of these employers offered EV charging as a benefit to retain and attract a talented, modern workforce. If they did need to charge a fee, a simple payroll deduction is easy, and less costly than installing $5000, high powered, fast, communicating chargers. Simple level 1 chargers or low current Level 2 units, like Konnectronix’s L2 PowerPost™ EVSE, is a simple, safe and practical solution.”
